The Second Book of Bachs "48" captures his multiform genius admirably: his quest for the Absolute in the latter years of his life (which was to give birth to the Musical Offering and the Art of the Fugue) on the one hand and his mastery of the "modern style" on the other hand. Andrei Vieru's interpretation will hopefully contribute to settling an age-old debate, namely that the "48" are not the exclusive domain of harpsichordists.
