For as long as I can remember, there was always Brahms. At the first concert I attended, his Sextet No.1 moved me so deeply that it decided my destiny: I would become a cellist. I was four at the time, and even today I have the feeling that, with Brahms, the cello is somehow idealised. After Bach, Vivaldi, Beethoven and Schumann, he made the voice of the cello his own.
