Each of the five works explores resonances and textures on the violin in unique ways. In Lim's Star Map, the scordatura and throaty bow gestures create a sensual and sonorous sound world, while Streich's Falter instructs the performer to 'be a lepidoptera' (a moth or butterfly) and focuses on lighter, more wind-born gestures. Johnson's piece played with gut strings and baroque bow involves constant retuning of the instrument, and Gieshoff's spun is the most outwardly virtuosic work on the album.
