The Combination of Callas and Karajan is formidably impressive. There is toughness and determination in Callas' singing, whether in the coloratura or the dramatic passages, and this gives the heroine an unexpected depth of character which culminates in Callas' fine singing of (part of) an aria (Tu vedrai che amore in terra...) which used often to be cut entirely.
